About me - current project:
LOGLINE: As they try to forge their place in the deteriorating Italian mob, two young men are dragged into escalating tensions with the Russian mob after getting unexpectedly robbed at a queer nightclub.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS:
In the present-day Italian enclave of Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, the remnants of a Mafia family struggle to survive and conduct business. A washed-up musician and younger member of the family, Johnny Ricardo, starts a feud with the Russian Mob. It's up to him and his cousin, Tony, to clean up their mess. Unbeknownst to older members of the family, things seem to fall further and further into chaos as Tony and Johnny succumb to their vices.
As the war with the Russian mob builds, Johnny's mother, Marie, and Tony's father, Nick—the head of the family—are put in the hospital, victims of a vicious attack. It is up to Johnny and Tony to make things right, but everything seems to be against them: the cops, their neighborhood, and their enemies.
BIOGRAPHY:
John Robert Franklin is an Atlanta based actor, writer, and musician. Born and raised in South Florida, John played baseball from the young age of 3 and followed that path into college with a scholarship to pitch for the University of South Carolina Beaufort. After his freshman year, John walked away from his baseball scholarship to find his true calling and traded stadium lights for stage lights. At 19, John walked onto his first set, "Magic City" in Miami, and he was instantly hooked. He enrolled in the Theatre program at Florida Atlantic University and received his Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. John went on to pursue a career in film and television, booking his first role on Netflix's "Bloodline" and later booking a role on "Outer Banks."
John started writing his first feature length screenplay, "Mirage" at the age of 25, which went on to win awards in New York, Los Angeles, and the South East. He has been writing features ever since. Now on his fourth feature screenplay, John looks back to New York where he spent his youth visiting family and his mother's childhood home. His Sicilian background runs deep in his veins like thick Sunday gravy, as do the memories of large family get-togethers, big family style meals, and the large characters of deceased relatives that will live on forever through his work.
When he is not creating, John spends his time with his lovely wife, Jena, their sassy dog, Juniper, and Dexter, their 20 pound Hemingway cat with thumbs. John loves to get lost in the woods on a crisp Fall day, play a little music on his guitar or his wife's childhood baby grand piano that they have moved around the country with, and catch weekday matinees in an empty theatre.
John loves the arts, and plans to spend his life in service of that art; on the screen or the stage, the page or the sound waves. All holds value in his heart.
