About me - current project:

Kohler (Hupa, Yurok, Karuk) is a member of the Hoopa Valley tribe. He graduated from Stanford University with an Engineering degree. He has been a writer, producer and director since 1999. His award-winning documentary, “River of Renewal” aired on PBS and Canadian stations close to 2000 times between 2009 and 2016. He created the “On Native Ground Youth Reports” television series which aired on the FNX / PBS channels from 2013 through 2020. Jack’s award winning short narrative, about the gold rush, “K’ina kil: The Slaver’s Son” has screened at film festivals around the world. In 2015 Jack wrote and composed a Native Rock Opera, “Something Inside Is Broken” which dramatized a particular story between the Nisenan tribe and Johann Sutter. It won a Native American Music Award and in 2022 has received 16 awards from around the world. In 2019, Jack helped produce the short film “Intrepidus,” which is now in preproduction to be made into a feature film. Most recently, this passed June, Jack cowrote and co-directed “Gift of Fear,” a narrative feature that deals with the MMIW crisis.
