About me - current project:
Cecilia Romo is an emerging first-generation Mexican-American multidisciplinary filmmaker whose work spans from directing, writing, producing and editing to creative writing and poetry. Born, raised and based in Sacramento, CA, she is a recent graduate of the Film program at Sacramento State University with a B.A. in Film Video Production and a minor in Creative Writing with a focus in Directing and Writing. As a visual artist Cecilia’s work stems from her early beginnings, learning to read, write and interpret the world around her. As a filmmaker, Cecilia developed a commitment to finding truth in her narratives, leading her to explore the nuances of her characters through their desires, inner conflicts, and personal relationships. This search for truth is influenced by her lived experiences from which she takes inspiration. Passionate about making filmmaking a diverse and inclusive space in collaborative environments she highlights the beauty and complexities of marginalized voices through her storytelling. Cecilia's goal is to disarm tropes and create authentic Latine/x representation with a queer and female-focus lens
Her films have investigated stories of internal moral struggles, trials of mother daughter bonds, identity, queerness and survival all from the lens of Latine/x characters. Cecilia’s undergraduate capstone film “Sueños De Mi Hija'' is a female driven story that has gone on to give alternative Latinas their flowers and be featured on LatinaMediaCo, a Latina focused site covering Latina media, art and artists. As a student at the Sacramento State Film program, Cecilia was the recipient of the California State University Entertainment Alliance Post-Production Award in collaboration with STARZ “Take the Lead” program. Her work has screened at festivals throughout California and has been supported by community, honorable mentions, grants and awards.
