About me - current project:

Bruce Hickey is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and film director. Prince of Chicago is inspired by true events, and it is a story about morality and redemption with a positive message. JAMAL is a young black man who grows up in the shadows of The United Center. He is nurtured by PEARL, a gang leader who becomes an adopted father and pays for his college to study computer science. Later, Jamal, armed with hi-tech savvy, is pressured by Pearl to infiltrate The Chicago Police Force as a mole for the gang. As a cop, Jamal adopts DALTON, the charismatic head of the anti-gang unit, as a new father figure. He’s soon trapped between his loyalties. Jamal changes his loyalties and becomes the gang leader's greatest nemesis.

Laurels, awards and other accomplishments:

His play "ALL I WANT," inspired by his casework experiences, enjoyed a successful two-year run at The Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago, receiving Jeff Awards for Best Play and Best Director. After moving to LA, Bruce continued to excel, directing theater, a feature film, and writing network TV movies. He remains prolific, with his short film "BLIND FAITH" winning an impressive 26 Best Short Film Festivals in 2023. His feature script "BLOOD TATTOO" also garnered two festival awards in the same year for Best Unproduced Script, while "PRINCE OF CHICAGO" achieved similar success, winning four in 2023. Bruce's play "LAST CALL" also received glowing reviews during its production at The Hudson Guild Theater in NYC, earning accolades like "Fine writing, a premise that I’ve never seen, and an ending I didn’t see coming" from Times Square Chronicle. Bill Saunders of the Chicago Sun-Times likened Bruce's work to "Tennessee Williams seen through the eyes of Martin Scorsese."
