Founded in 2004 by Dr. Lew Hunter, Dean Emeritus of the UCLA Screenwriting program, The American Screenwriters Conference is the premier discussion of its kind where award-winning screenwriters learn the art and business of screenwriting.
Because the workshop is tied to the Sacramento International Film Festival, and the 48 Hours California Filmmakinhg Challenge, screenwriters and filmmakers are invited to prepare by learning from THE PROS! Whether your goal is to be involved in the 48 Hours show this summer or not, this invaluable additional education and networking will greatly benefit your screenwriting craft.
ABOUT OUR HOST:
Richard Broadhurst is a veteran of Broadway, national commercials, and film, having written, directed or starred in over 50 stage plays and films. His play "Billie" was Larry Moss's first directing project at his studio featuring Noah Wyle of E.R. fame. Richard has worked with many major talents including Jason Alexander of Seinfeld and Edward Asner of The Mary Tyler More Show and Disney's UP. He has acted in many national productions including on the soap opera, One Life to Live. A life-long member of SAG/AFTRA and Actor's Equity, Richard has a vast arsonal of tools in his creative kit to help you craft stories that are real AND vivid . Actors love running his lines. Meet Richard and pick his brain about writing or acting in this relaxed, fun setting where creativity abounds.

SPECIAL GUEST: DAVID AGUILAR
David Aguilar is a L.A. born Chicano who spent his formative years in Placerville, California, with a rich history that sparked the concept for his short film Hangtown, a coming-of-age drama which premiered at the Sacramento Film Festival and won best Latino short! He also appeard in the American Screenwriters Conference as a special guest.
Aguilar's recent writing credits include the CBS dramatic series Matlock and SWAT as well as the mini-series FDR, now streaming on Hulu, and the award-winning animated short film To The Letter, which won first place at the CBS Leadership Pipeline Challenge and Jury Prize at the Afro-Animation Awards.
Aguilar recently finished work on Trespassers -- a feature screenplay for director Alex Rivera dramatizing the 1967 New Mexico Courthouse Raid culminating in the largest manhunt on U.S. soil -- currently being taken out to market. Aguilar is a proud alum of the Paramount Writers Mentoring Program, the National Hispanic Media Coalition’s TV Writers Program, and UCLA Film School. He’s traveled to Chiapas, Mexico to teach filmmaking to the Zapatista guerrilla army as well as to Havana to study Cuban cinema. Aguilar lives in Pasadena, California with his wife Carolina. He is represented by Avatar Entertainment.
