Sexual Harassment Complaints in the Workplace

written by https://writingscentre.com/

Sexual harassment issue is highly discussed by many journalists, actresses, psychologists and in particular by employees who became victims of such an action. This essay is focused on sexual harassment complaints in the workplace on the basis of a story about Amber and Dale.

In fact, sexual harassment is a unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct when submission or rejection of this conduct explicitly or implicitly creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment (Skaine, 1996). When analyzing the fact that Dale and Amber had long term relationship and then fell apart, it is become obvious that sexual harassment had occurred.

The complaints of Dale and Amber are quite obscure. However, Amber can prove Dale’s assaults by providing his insulting text messages. In this case, it is reasonable to ask her about Dale’s behavior during their relationship. Was he satisfied in sex? What was the reason of breach of relations? Dale would have to tell what feelings does he have to Amber after falling apart. Why did a picture of statue of David irritate him so much? Is he able to get revenge on anyone who has ever assaulted him?

In this situation, it seems that only Dale had a possibility to make an attempt of sexual harassment. It is clear that his actions are stipulated by negative feelings to Amber after falling apart. In addition, his aggression is a psychological reaction to his weakness and inability neither to restore the relations with Amber nor to cope with the situation. He is not able to influence Amber anymore thus, he tries to assault her physically.

To sum it up, the only reasonable solution in this case is explaining Dale and Amber that all issues which are not related to work should remain behind the door of the office. It is also reasonable to separate the cubicles of Dale and Amber far enough for them not to be able to see each other.
